Framtidens samtidskonstuppdrag

Artist-Run Europe: Practice/Projects/Spaces

Gavin Murphy will discuss the Artist-Run Europe publication and research project, initiated by Pallas Projects, Dublin. Part how-to manual, part history, and part socio-political critique, Artist‑Run Europe looks at the conditions, organisational models, and role of artist-led practice within contemporary art and society. The aim is to show how artist-run practice manifests itself, how artist-run spaces are a distinctive and central part of visual art culture, and how they present a complex, heterogeneous, and necessary set of alternatives to the art institution, museum and commercial gallery.

Gavin Murphy, Pallas Projects, Dublin

Duration: ca 30 min. Location: Stage, 1st floor

in English

17.30    PERFORMANCE

PALS Handshake

Lovisa Johansson, Christin Wahlström, Erik Wijkström, Denis Romanovski, Torbjörn Steijner

The project brings up questions about artistic dialogue, influences and context. How much do artists in Stockholm know about what is happening in Gothenburg? And how much do artists in Gothenburg know about artists in Stockholm?

PALS Handshake is a collaborative project between PALS, Stockholm and Gallery 54, Gothenburg. Participating PALS members each selected one artist living in Gothenburg and together with their collaborator have been developing a performance work inspired by, or dedicated to that particular artist or her/his work. The result might also take on a collaborative, jointly created format as an outcome of the mutual dialogue.

THE SYSTEM AS FIGURATIVE IDEA

This talk will address the figure of systems and patterns in contemporary artistic practice, as well as their organisation. Supermarket brings together speakers from different fields to share their practice and thoughts. The focus is on the individual’s wish to create and organise, and how these types of initiatives produce effects, and impact society and economy. What is the role and relation of the self-organised to the institution? Why do we need an art field and what is its necessary constitution? How can increasing our understanding of the interdependency between our institutions offer insight into less destructive ways of living?

Nora Bateson, Bateson Institute; Anders Paulin, director, dramaturg; Tobias Sternberg, artist, director of HilbertRaum, Berlin

15.30    PERFORMANCE

The Sentence

Concept: Weld / Frida Sandström and Anna Koch

To collide or to slightly shift; meetings overlap as negotiations. Thus the meaning emerges – in relation to the other. The Sentence is a proposal to meet in between meanings – to write them anew. In the division between the individual and the common, two persons share a meaning. Crashing within differences, they await a single sentence.

Finally, we pronounce a meaning.

Together.

The Sentence is a proposal for writing in dialogue and in speaking choir.

Participants: maximum 20

Drop in the first 15 minutes.

Duration: 60–120 min. Location: Stage, 1st floor

Cumbersome Dough     PERFORMANCE

Heidi Edström [ingentinget] and Ester Olofsson.

Stay upright, stay straight and pull yourself together. Hold it tight, hold it close and hold it together in your arms while it’s rising. Tremble as it clings to you, sticking to your arms and to your clothes, weighing you down towards the floor. It is a cumbersome dough in a slow durational performance where people pass by like time as the fermentation process proceeds, decomposing a barely maintained facade of strength.

Durational, ca 3–4 hours from 15.30.
