In March 2010 MUU has more than 500 artist members.
MUU Gallery, Helsinki
Established in 1987, the Artists' Association MUU represents new artistic
disciplines such as media, video, light, sound, performance and
environmental art. In February 2010, the association had 530 artist members.
In addition to contemporary art exhibitions, the international programme of
MUU Gallery and MUU Studio includes performances, lectures, concerts and
video screenings. The gallery presents work by more than 150 artists every
year.
MUU's co-operation partners in Supermarket are Finnish Artist Association
and Photographic Gallery Hippolyte. At Supermarket, MUU will present video
pieces by ten artists: Pasi Autio, Essi Kausalainen, Heta Kuchka, Johanna
Lecklin, KirsiMarja Metsähuone, Sari Palosaari, Simo Rouhiainen, Hanne
Ivars, Juha Mäki-Jussila and Milja Viita.
Supermarket will also feature the launch of MUU FOR EARS 2, a new
compilation in the MUU sound art publication series. The CD features sound
works by ten artists from the Nordic countries: Siri Austeen, Åsa Maria
Bengtsson, Child of Klang, Olle Essvik, Goodiepal, Gintas K, Ida Lundén &
Lise-Lotte Norelius, Pekka Sassi, Marja-Leena Sillanpää and Jimi Tenor.
Photographic Gallery Hippolyte, Helsinki
Photographic Gallery Hippolyte, founded in 1978, is run by the Union of
Artist Photographers in Finland – a nonprofit artist-run association with c.
350 member artists. The Union promotes and supports photo-based art, and the
professional, economic and social interests of its members. The Union is an
active organizer of also other processes, incl. Helsinki Photography
Festival (www.hpf.fi), and the annual Art Fair Suomi (www.artfairsuomi.fi).
Gallery Hippolyte co-operates with Finnish Artist Association and MUU galery
at Supermarket. Artists presented are Tatu Hiltunen, Renja Leino, Jouko
Lehtola, Ismo Luukkonen, Juha Nenonen, Sini Pelkki, Kari Soinio and Pekka
Turunen.
