Kurant is an artist-run space for young and emerging artists established in January 2009 by Kåre Grundvåg, Line Solberg Dolmen og Geir Backe Altern. It is currently run by Geir Backe Altern, Kristin Tårnes, Susanne Sakariassen and Maria Danielsen. Kurant has played a very central role in the process of creating a scene for contemporary art in Tromsø. In addition to regular exhibitions the space has been used for concerts, dance performances, happenings, film club and more. Kurant usually has one exhibition/ event per month or more, and the artists are selected by invitation or applications.
Since autumn 2010 it has also had a studio space with room for 6 artists.
