Gallery Crymo - The young artist gallery
Crymo is an artist run and non-profit gallery in downtown Reykjavík. The gallery opened on the 17th of June 2009 with a group exhibition displaying work by 30 young artists.
The founders, Þorgerður Ólafsdóttir and Solveig Pálsdóttir both graduated from the Icelandic Art Academy in 2009. They wanted to create a venue for young artists to exhibit their work, as there are not many places for young artists in Iceland.
They found an old house on a derelict spot in the heart of Reykjavík which was planned to be torn down for the new grand building of the Art Academy.
The plan has been postponed or thrown out the window.
Since the opening there has been over thirty private exhibitions, four big group exhibitions, dance-performances, concerts, workshops, book publishing, art markets and poetry readings.
The artists we have chosen to represent Gallery Crymo have all had solo exhibitions in Crymo and have been very focused on their work since graduation.
