articule, an open-access artist-run centre, has been dedicated to the presentation of a broad range of contemporary art practices for 30 years.
We strive for artistic excellence, interdisciplinarity and social engagement, presenting work by both emerging artists and those who have already established important precedents, who continue to test the limits of aesthetic gesture, and who commit themselves to the ideals of experimentation and risk taking. articule supports discursive and alternative activities that promote dialogue and build networks with local, national and international artists, collectives and organizations.

articule has four programming channels: a long-term programme of gallery exhibitions; shorter-term Special Projects supporting independent projects, members’ and outreach initiatives; events, and discursive activities such as launches, discussions, artist talks and publications, which provide accessible forums for exchange.

Under the direction of the Board, three permanent part-time coordinators manage the day-to-day operations. They work with a range of member committees to develop and shape the centre’s activities.

articule serves to link a strong Anglophone artistic community with the larger French Quebec milieu. This distinct character responds to the needs of a vital sector of Montreal’s artistic and cultural landscape. Thus articule fills a distinct niche in the mix of artist-run centres across Canada.
